Seven Step Process
We’re proud to bring custom homes, duplexes and renovations to life for clients across Sydney. Our expert team will be with you at every step of the journey, offering our best advice and guidance to bring your new home to life. Every custom home, duplex or renovation that we design and construct follows the same seven-step process below. This ensures our clients, and our projects receive the attention they deserve at each critical stage.
Every project begins with a detailed design brief. During an initial site visit we’ll document everything you want and don’t want in your home. We’ll also review your building conditions and block topography by conducting a detailed site survey and requesting specific site information from your local council. Every design by Pilot & Pine is tailored to your unique building budget to ensure you’re getting the best home in every facet.
Using all the information gathered in step 1, we will prepare a design for your review. You are free to choose from one of our designs or start with a blank canvas for a full custom service. Should you choose one of our pre-existing designs, we highly recommend some changes to ensure the home will fit perfectly on your site. When we present your new design, we’ll walk you through the floorplan in detail. Then, you can take your time to review and advise of any revisions you’d like us to make.
At this stage you’ve given us the green light to prepare all your relevant documents for building approval. We’ll prepare the final working drawings and your full specifications as well as engineering plans before submitting your home design to the local authorities for development consent or planning approval.
At this stage, you’ll receive a full copy of your building contract with all the relevant documents for your review and signature. Part of this documentation includes a full detailed tender that lists all the inclusions in your home, as well as the lump sum quote to complete the construction. Our price will be within the budget initially discussed. Once the contract is signed, we’re ready to begin your final selections and finishes.
Now it’s time to select your final fittings and materials. Our interior designer will guide you through the process to ensure your new home is personalised to your style and tastes. In the meantime, we’ll begin preparing our construction schedule to ensure your build starts and finishes on time.
Now we’re ready to build. Our building manager will book in all relevant earth works and you’ll begin seeing your wonderful new home design come to life. At various stages of construction, we’ll arrange site meetings to discuss progress and for you to inspect our high-quality workmanship.
The day you’ve been waiting for is finally here! You’re ready to accept the keys to your new home. But before you do, we’ll conduct a final inspection with you and run you through your maintenance schedule. Once you’re satisfied, the keys are yours and your new home is ready to move in to and enjoy. We will come visit you again in one year’s time to see how your new home is settling into its new environment.

Once approved, we will quote the design and make amendments until it is within budget.
